My Artist in Residence month at the Mansion at Strathmore is right around the corner!
On April 8th I’ll be playing material off of Dérive and a few new songs from Spirit House. I’ll also be collaborating on a few songs with fellow Strathmore residents as well as my mentor Allyn Jonhnson.
On April 22nd, Ethan and I will perform with our chamber ensemble (which includes my string quartet invoke!). We’ll be sharing most of the music from Spirit House during this performance as well as a world premiere.
And on April 15th, I’ll be conducting a free workshop about my songwriting process.
I’m honored to be a part of the tenth season of Strathmore’s Artists in Residence program. So far, I’ve attended a number of professional development workshops, with topics ranging from taxes for musicians to video production. I reunited with classical guitarist Cristian Perez, who I took masterclasses with in college, and I became closer with the members of invoke. I’ve also grown fond of jazz pianist and songwriter Mark Meadows and Rochelle Rice, a phenomenal contemporary vocalist and songwriter. My mentor, Allyn Johnson, is a stellar jazz pianist, and I collaborated on writing a song with him and Cristian Perez for his Strathmore concert in December.
It’s been an honor to be a part of Strathmore’s Artist in Residence program. I’ve learned so much more about the world of music and have grown even more confident about my own project by being a part of this experience!
